Jamshedpur's Tata Steel celebrates Bharat Ratna JRD Tata’s 119th birth-anniversary

Tata Steel today celebrated the 119th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna JRD Tata by paying tribute to the legend and organizing a series of activities like sports, quizzes, an aero modeling show, a walkathon, and other events for the community at all its sites.

Tributes were paid to JRD Tata at the Sonari Airport in Jamshedpur and various other places by dignitaries and employees of Tata Steel and other group companies.” The main attraction, the Aero Modeling Show at Gopal Maidan enthralled the audience who came to celebrate the occasion in large numbers. The show witnessed interactive demonstrations and a wonderful display of remarkable model aircraft of various sizes and types from internal combustion engines, turbine engines, and electric engines.

Teams from Jamshedpur and Kolkata were part of the show. There was a static display of aircraft and other models, while aircraft such as the Fun Cub, Slow Stick, and twin electric were flown during the show.

A walkathon was also organized in the morning at the grounds of the JRD Tata Sports Complex, which was opened to the citizens of Jamshedpur. A total of about 400 people attended the event, which included Asmita Dorjee (Everest Mountaineer), Santosh Varghese (former Indian athletics coach), Mukul Vinayak Choudhary, Chief Sports Tata Steel, and Hemant Gupta, Head Sports Tata Steel.

This year's celebrations focus on JRD Tata and his dreams of building a digital India and how he was instrumental in laying the foundations for the birth of the digital era in the country.

It was JRD's vision, Tata Steel has consistently embraced state-of-the-art technology as an integral part of its corporate ethos, a feat made possible by the visionary leadership of JRD Tata. Tata Steel Center for Excellence also organized a quiz for students on July 28 at Michael John Auditorium. The event brought together 200 talented students from 20 leading English medium schools in Jamshedpur.

On July 27, Tata Steel Sports Department also organized an athletic meet for transgender employees at the JRD Tata Sports Complex as part of the celebrations.
